WFR – Workplace Psychological First Aid

Course Overview

About This Course

This Workplace Psychological First Aid (PFA) course is designed for professionals who serve as mental well-being touchpoints in their organisations. Learners will gain essential skills to recognise signs of emotional distress, understand the principles of PFA, and apply supportive techniques in situations involving anxiety, grief, or trauma. The course builds confidence to respond appropriately in workplace crises, fosters a psychologically safe environment, and supports learners in taking on enhanced responsibilities in employee well-being and support roles.

It is offered as part of the Well-being First Responder (WFR) series of initiatives developed by the Well-being Champions Network (WCN), a national Community of Practice (CoP) platform supported by the Tripartite Alliance Limited, which is jointly set up by the
Ministry of Manpower (MOM), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF).

What You'll Learn

Learners will be able to:

• Identify the components of Workplace Mental Health (WMH) and its links to the role of Psychological First Aid (PFA) providers creating supportive workplaces

• Apply communication techniques and strategies as a PFA provider to address WMH challenges at workplaces

• Apply protocols and interventions as a PFA provider to support and monitor WMH affected individuals at workplaces

Minimum Entry Requirement

This course is designed for professionals who serve as front-line support in promoting mental well-being within the workplace. It is especially relevant for well-being champions, peer supporters, people managers, HR professionals, safety officers, and medical or triage staff who are often the first to notice signs of distress among employees. These roles play a critical part in early identification and response to emotional and psychological issues in the workplace.

As mental health concerns become more prevalent across sectors, there is growing recognition that organisations must not only provide resources but also build internal capabilities to respond appropriately to distress and crisis. However, many employees in designated support roles lack the confidence or training to handle conversations around grief, anxiety, or trauma. This course addresses that gap by equipping learners with the foundational knowledge of mental health and the practical application of Psychological First Aid (PFA). By learning to recognise signs of emotional distress and apply structured PFA techniques, participants will be better prepared to support colleagues effectively, promote a psychologically safe work culture, and act as key enablers in their organisation’s mental well-being strategy.
